A gin has been recalled in Canada after being made at double normal alcohol levels

A batch of Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin has been recalled in Canada after it was accidentally made with 77 per cent alcohol. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario was first to spot the rogue batch of gin and ordered for the product to be recalled. "This recall was initiated after an investigation by LCBO Quality Assurance revealed a deviation in the stated 40% alcohol content by volume. The affected lot L16304w has alcohol content by volume of 77%," read the LCBO's statement. "This product is not safe for consumption.  Consuming a product with an alcohol content of 77% could cause serious illness." Other provincial authorities around the country followed suit in issuing recalls of the product. There have been no reported illnesses as a result of the gin. So for once, those who blame their dodgy night out on "a bad batch of drink" are technically right. At least in Canada. Hat-tip to the Guardian.
