On this day in 1869, Mahatma Gandhi was born. Known unofficially as the Father of India and one of the most inspirational speakers on human rights, Gandhi lived his life by the policy of "my life is my message."
However, while he managed to place India on the road to freedom from the British Empire, Gandhi never advocated the use of violence, always protesting through peaceful means like hunger strikes.
