A funeral home in Texas was forced to apologise to a family following a burial – after discovering the body of the woman they were supposed to have buried during the service was still in their memorial home.

Bruce Lawson told KHOU news that when he was attending the funeral service of his late mother Edna Lawson, he noticed she looked differed but put it down to the effects of embalming:

“I said, “it doesn’t look like my mum, maybe you have the wrong body?”

A staff member at Mabrie Memorial Mortuary assured him that his mother’s appearance had changed due to the embalming process, telling him:

“We don’t make those kind of mistakes.”

It was only following the ceremony that Mr.Lawson received a phone call to tell him they had just found the body of his mother. The memorial home then confirmed that the family had since buried a complete stranger next to his father in the family lot.

The funeral home were quick to apologise to Lawson’s family, offering to bury their mother in her assigned grave, but Mr. Lawson has decided against having a second funeral for his mother:

“You don’t want to sent the loved ones through that all over again.

“She wanted a spiritual way to leave this earth, but it got robbed from her and her spirit.”

The body of the second woman has since been exhumed by Mabrie Memorial Mortuary.
