Facebook is a great way of keeping in touch with people but how many of your ‘friends’ do you actually know in real life? We’re asking because one man has decided to travel around the world and personally meet every single one of his 788 Facebook friends face-to-face.
Ty Morin, a photographer and documentary maker, was frustrated over the fact that he didn’t know at least half of the people who had befriended him on Facebook. So wants to do something about it – he wants to pay them a visit.
Ty wants to meet every single one of his Facebook friends in real life
According to Ty, the role of social media in our lives has actually weakened our relationships. Websites like Facebook and Twitter have made it easy for us to connect with others and while that’s great, the downside is that we don’t put in any real effort with our friendships anymore.
Ty wants to meet each of his friends in real life and take pictures of them doing what they do best. He also wants to make a documentary of the process.
He plans to take pictures of all his friends doing what they love
“The idea is to capture everyone doing something they are passionate about, while filming the whole process… I want to sit down with everyone and witness what gets their blood pumping,” writes Ty on his Kickstarter campaign fundraising page.
“My plan is to take five new portraits every week… it will take approximately three years,” he adds.
Ty’s original fundraising goal for the project, including filming, photographing and travelling amounted to $5,000 but people interested in his idea have already pledged over $12,500.
Since announcing his plans, Ty’s Facebook friend number has grown
We should probably mention that Ty’s Facebook friend count has risen the more popularity his project has gained.
In the space of a few short weeks he’s gone from having 788 Facebook friends to 1,200. We wonder if he’ll be adding those extra people to his project too?
