Forget Horse Burgers, It’s All About Test-Tube Burgers Now!

Would you eat a burger that was made in a laboratory?

Forget horse burgers, is this what we’ll all be eating in a few years? Scientists in the Netherlands have successfully managed to create the world’s first test-tube burger.

The Daily Mail reports that scientists from the University of Masstricht in the Netherlands have created a burger made from muscle tissue grown in huge vats in a laboratory.

According to the scientists this test-tube meat is kinder to the environment, it reduces animal suffering and it could solve the problem of food shortage in the world but we just have one question: would you eat it?

Dr Mark Post managed to create the ‘burger’ from beef muscle tissue

The test-tube burger was made from strands of beef muscle tissue grown in a lab and apparently it’s going to be cooked (and consumed!) at a special event in London. The scientists hope that the event will show the world that in-Virto meat (meat grown in a test-tube) is a reality and could be the answer to all of our problems.

In-vitro meat is a product made from animal flesh that has never actually be part of an animal. It is believed that this ‘manufactured’ meat could be sold next to the real thing on supermarket shelves in the future.

Dr Mark Post, the scientist who made the burger, has done some informal taste tests and has said that it is “reasonably good” but would that be enough to make you chow down on it?
