Ladies, we all know that being single can be a little bit tough – especially if you’ve just recently been dumped. But flying solo has some major benefits too and we thought it was about time we reminded you of the joys of being on your own.

There’s a common misconception out there that in order for a woman to be happy, she needs to share her life with someone else. Sharing your life is all well and good, but being a strong, fierce, independent lady is also pretty good too.

In fact, here are ten reasons why we think it’s great to be single. If you have any other reasons, feel free to add to the list!

Being single means that you don’t have to answer to anyone, you’re completely free.

10. You can do whatever you want: Suddenly you don’t have to answer to anyone. If you wake up in the morning and decide that you want to quit your job and move to Iceland, you don’t have to explain yourself! You no longer have to coordinate your schedule with another person. You have complete and total freedom. Awesome!

9. You don’t have to shave your legs: We all know that when you’re in a relationship, certain things are expected of you. Leg shaving/waxing is one of those things. When you’re single you can just let it all grow and ladies? You can cancel that standing appointment you have for a bikini wax (finally!).

8. You control the remote: No longer do you have to waste hours of your life watching football and stupid man programmes. You are free to watch a marathon of Sex and the City. You can spend a weekend locked away with the latest box set of Gossip Girl without interruption. You can watch those romcoms in peace. Happy days!

7. You can have girly nights: Your nights out will no longer involve a compromise to keep himself happy. You can gather the girls and spend the night dancing non-stop, you can go for cocktails at a swish boutique bar, you can check out that new nightclub that you know he wouldn’t like. The world is your oyster!

6. You’ll save money: Think of all the money you’ll save now that you no longer have to go out with his friends, have a weekly takeaway with him, go to the cinema with him. Ladies, let’s be realistic. Relationships, great and all as they are, are a drain on your finances. When you’re single you can save up and finally buy that handbag you’ve been lusting after. Score.

Being single means that you’re no longer glued to your phone.

5. You can flirt: If a handsome stranger catches your eye you can go over and have a bit of banter with him without getting the evil eye from your partner. You can flirt up a veritable storm with the best talent that your area has to offer.

4. You’re not glued to your phone: When you’re in a relationship you’re obliged to keep in contact with your other half. When you’re single you’re not constantly checking your phone for messages or missed calls. Think of all the free time you’ll have!

3. You can shop for yourself: You can browse the shops in peace rather than having a disgruntled boyfriend hanging out of you and moaning non-stop. You can go to whatever shops you like, try on clothes and just enjoy the experience.

2. You don’t have to eat man portions: Every woman gains a little bit of weight when she’s in a relationship – this is all down to the fact that we end up eating man-sized portions when it comes to our food. If there isn’t a man in your life, you won’t eat as much and you’re far more likely to stick to your usual healthy lifestyle.

1. You can focus on yourself: Being single means that you can take the time you need to look after yourself. You can focus on what’s important to you – your hopes, your dreams and your goals. All of these things can get put on the backburner when you’re in a relationship so see your singledom as a chance to really invest in and take care of yourself. You won’t regret it!
