Five ways to relive your childhood this summer

I long for the days of three months off school, unlimited free time, and days spent running riot in my local town over the holidays. Summer was just better as a kid. There were zero responsibilities, you didn't have to wear your school uniform and is it just me or did we have actual summers back then with sunshine and everything? Maybe I'm just remembering the good parts. So here is my list of five ways to relive your childhood this summer 1. Go on an adventure with your best friend Grab some bikes, some backpacks, and head off for the day. Back in the day when bikes were our only means of  transport over the summer months, it seemed like we were never off them. This summer why not go for a cycle around your neighbourhood or if you're up for a challenge, the Cycle Ireland app has over 100 cycle routes around Ireland so you will be spoilt for choice. Nothing says summer more than zooming around with your best friends without a care in the world. I'm not saying you'll be as good as these ladies but as long as you manage to stay upright you'll be okay. via GIPHY 2. Head to 98FM's Big Slide Home with HB Ice Cream You may have read our story last week about the ginormous 260 ft water slide coming to Dublin this summer as part of 98FM's Big Slide Home with HB Ice Cream. I dreamed about this kind of thing when I was younger and now it's finally here. The event which is happening on Winetavern Street beside Christchurch Cathedral will take place on Saturday the 23rd July and Sunday 24th July. To take part all you need to do is head over to HB's Facebook page to nab a wristband. Band holders will win two free slides within a two hour period. The allocated times will be between 12pm-6pm on Saturday and 12.30-6.30 on Sunday. You can read the full rules and regulations for the event here. 3. Spend a whole day at the beach No, going for a walk on the beach doesn't count, you've got to make a whole day out of it. There's nothing I loved more as a kid than packing up the freezer box and windbreaker before heading to the beach for the day. Bring a good book, your swimming togs and maybe even a sand bucket and spade if you're feeling adventurous. Of course, any trip to the beach wouldn't be the same without some very sandy sandwiches and a 99. You won't regret it. via GIPHY 4. Visit your cousins Growing up my cousins were my summer and I think it's probably the same for most people. We would spend ages messing around outside, making dens and playing sports. When you couldn't see your school friends every week you always knew you were guaranteed to see your cousins at family gatherings. They were the ultimate summer playdates and unlike your siblings you weren't quite fed up of their company yet. Visiting your cousins will undoubtedly bring all those summer memories back. Whip out the photo albums, head back to some of your favourite spots and have a good old catch up. 5. Make a fort Channel your inner Joey and build yourself a fort. There was nothing and I mean nothing better than a fort on a summer's day. I think we probably spent just as much time constructing them as we did actually playing in them. We would spend hours arguing over building techniques and the best materials to use.
