If you follow a set template for all your posts, you run the risk of boring potential fans. Vary the length and style of your posts, and take note of those that attract more views, or keep people on your site for longer.
2. Ask for feedback
Don’t be afraid to take feedback on board. Ask your friends and readers for their honest opinions on your posts to date, and what you could do to make your blog more appealing to them.
3. Engage with your readers
This is key. Fans will keep coming back to your blog if they can identify with your posts and relate the content to their own lives. For the same reason, many will want to start a conversation with you. Be open to that line of communication. Respond to comments and questions where possible – your readers will thank you for it!
4. Plan ahead
If your blog is a passion project that is maintained alongside all the demands of modern life, you need to be prepared for those demands to sometimes eat up all your time. If that happens, the last thing you want is an outdated blog with no recent posts. Try to be at least two or three posts ahead of yourself at any given time, or prep some features that aren’t time specific, which can keep your blog populated on days when you just won’t get a chance to go near it.
5. Join a community
Some of the fiercest supporters of blogs are other bloggers! Though you may be covering similar topics as someone else, that doesn’t make them competition. Think of how many websites you visit in a given day, then remember that there’s room and time for them all! Get involved in social media conversations blogger meet-ups. You’ll introduce new eyes to your blog, and you’re likely to make some great friends along the way.
Can you blog with the best? Find out everything you need to know about entering yourself (or a friend!) in the 2016 #AussieBlogAwards here, or simply fill out the form below.

I’m a 35-year-old in HR, earning €26k, and this was my biggest financial mistake Let’s be honest, most of us are at least a little bit nosy when it comes to money. We want to know what other people are earning, how they’re actually getting by, and what their spending really looks like (not the […]
