Five Tips For Making The Best Burger

Hopefully, soon it will be barbeque season. Soon...

Sue Murphy

Today, May 28th, is Burger Day, so we thought, seeing as the weather is getting better (we are really trying not to jinx it), we would take a look at some tips for cooking that perfect burger.

1. Get the right meat

The more freshly ground the meat is, the better the burger. Ask your butcher to ground the meat for you. Also, try to get that lean, lean meat; this makes tough dry burgers and all the more juicy.

2. Use wet hands to make the burger patties

If your hands are a little more damp at the start, the meat will come together quicker and you won’t over handle the burger. Less handling, better burger.

3. Try different types of meat

Just to add extra flavour, it might be worth mixing the meat together. Include some buffalo, or some chicken if you are feeling adventurous. You could even wrap the burger in bacon and cook it. If you are not into meat, embrace the veggie!

4. Adding flavours to the beef

Try to avoid just cooking the meat and adding salt and pepper; flavouring is key to the entire burger affair. Add some spice, chili, peppers. Cut up some onions, add some garlic and cover the outside of the burger with a layer of beaten egg.

5. Cooking the burger

Get the pan or barbeque really hot. Place the burger in the oiled pan and let it cook. Do not move until the pan naturally releases. Then turn the burger over until fully browned all over. Make sure to add all your favourite condiments, we’re big fans of using some barbeque sauce, cutting up some mushrooms and include them also. If you are using a bun, lightly toast for a couple of minutes to add to the flavour of the burger.

Don’t be afraid to think outside the box! There are plenty of burger recipes online, try experiment!
