Her

Given the season, so very many of us watching what we eat. We’re miserable from the comedown after the gluttonous indulgence over Christmas, and we’ve sworn off chocolate/crisps/takeaways/booze/you name it. But, while there’s absolutely no harm in giving your body a healthier start to the year, ditching food altogether is absolutely no way to go about it. Believe us, we’ve been there, and the side effects aren’t pretty…

1. Your metabolism slows down

Whenever your body thinks food is scarce, it reacts by slowing down your metabolism to defend you from starving. You need to keep your metabolism ticking to assure your body food is in plentiful supply!

2. You eat more for the following meals

Hunger is not your friend, no matter what the models might tell you. Skipping meals results in binge eating for most, so you end up eating excess calories at other meals. Back to square one.

3. Your blood sugar goes a little crazy

Going without food for hours at a time can make your blood sugar drop. For many, this can result in headaches and a feeling of lightheadedness. Not the best idea if you actually want to achieve anything with your day.

4. Everything is a little slower

Your body runs on energy. You get your energy from food. So, it should go without saying that skipping meals will result in most of your bodily functions opting for a go-slow. Unless you can afford a go-slow day at work, you really need to give yourself the fuel to make it through.

5. Everything starts to look like food

This one is less scientific, but we all know it’s true. Mmmm, chicken…
