Five Fun Ways To Keep Cosy This Winter

Tis the season to be cosy..

Her

Tis the season of slankets, slippers and sweaters and it’s time to get cosy, people. So if you’re turning into a proper Irish Mammy and you always feel a draught no matter where you are or what you’re doing, why not make yourself a hot chocolate and check out some of our favourite fun ways to keep cosy this winter.

Snug as a bug

Onesies and mittens and snoods, oh my! Word on the street is that we’re in for an Arctic winter so embrace your inner eskimo and wrap up in the cosiest woollies you can find. If you want some new wintry bits and bobs for your wardrobe but you’re strapped for cash, why not get crafty and make your own pieces? You’ll save some shekels and have a good time in the process (we promise!). Unearth those knitting needles, get your friends around and pop on Love Actually while you create those snuggly masterpieces in front of the fire. #grannychic

Food glorious food

It’s that time of year when your body is calling out for warming, hearty dishes which means it’s time to indulge in all sorts of delicious soups, stews and casseroles. Mmm. Challenge yourself to perfect a couple of tasty comforting dishes (we’re thinking along the lines of beef bourguignon, butternut squash risotto or chicken and leak pie), and make sure you spend at least one winter evening toasting marshmallows by the fire. It just doesn’t get much cosier than that.

Take a walk on the wild side

You know the drill. Wrap up in your warmest woollies, grab your wellies and explore the great outdoors in all of its wintry goodness. You can’t spend the entire cold season under your duvet – even if you really want to. Bring the dog, your other half or your best friend for company and if there’s an ice rink nearby make sure to stop off to try out a couple of laps. There’s nothing cosier than wrapping your fingers around a piping hot drink after you’ve been out in the crisp winter air and/or flying around on the ice. Sometimes you’ve got to love the simple things in life.

Shake things up

Take a weekend or evening to adapt your living area to reflect the change in season and transform your room into a haven of cosiness. Winter is the time of year for cosy light, soft furnishings and spicy fragrances. Invest in a new rug, scented candles (cinnamon, cranberry and pine trees are some of our favourites), fairy lights or lanterns to make your room feel more cosy. Make yourself a snug corner with cushions and blankets where you can curl up with a book or a boxset on those super cold days when you just don’t want to leave your nest.

I’ve been dranking

From pumpkin spice lattes and marshmallow-topped hot chocolates to glasses brimming with mulled wine and warm apple cider, winter beats the socks off the rest of the seasons when it comes to delicious beverages. Take a break from your Christmas shopping to warm yourself up with a piping hot toffee nut latte, and make sure to bust out your most decadent hot cocoa during your annual screening of Elf. This might even be the year we try out eggnog (and find out what it is exactly while we’re at it.) Cheers friends!
