Five Festive Date Ideas For The Days After Christmas

Her

So, you’ve had your epic turkey dinner, caught up with the family, opened all of your presents, watched Downton Abbey and now you’re getting ready to head out on the tiles with your homies tonight. Over the next few days, however, the Christmas madness will start to fizzle out and you’ll have a little extra time to spend with that special someone in your life. Here are five fun post-Christmas date ideas for yourself and your other half…

Get in the rink

Yes, we know it’s the most clichéd Christmassy date out there, but if you haven’t been ice skating with your other half this year, we guarantee you’ll have a good time. Your nearest rink will probably only be open for the next week or so, so make sure you take advantage of it while it’s there. More than likely one of you will be clutching the other for dear life, you’ll have a serious laugh and also skate off some of the Christmas dinner. Sure it’ll be like something out of a movie!

Day at the races

Between Leopardstown, Fairyhouse, Tramore and Dundalk, race courses around Ireland are about to see a whole load of action in the next week or two. It’s a great excuse for you both to get dolled up, and there is a whole load of craic just waiting to be had waging bets and competing over horses with your other half. And hey, if a day spent in the grandstand is good enough for Kate, well it’ll work for us too…

Romantic night for two

There’s no better present than surprising your other half with a night away for just the two of you in the days after Christmas – even if it’s just somewhere down the road! Escape the madness of your respective families and just take off somewhere together for the evening. A romantic trip to a hotel or B&B will keep your festive cheer going right through until New Year’s Eve.

Treat eachother

A day spent trudging around the post-Christmas sales is probably your other half’s idea of hell, but if you promise him a treat or two at the end of it, sure he can’t say no, right? Make a bargain that you’ll take him to dinner in his favourite restaurant after you’ve shopped til you drop, and let him know that there are extra brownie points to be earned if he helps carry the bags. We’re just putting it out there.

Snuggle up

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Those precious days after Christmas are usually some of the most chilled out of the entire year, so sometimes taking a break from all of the festive nights out can be refreshing. Curl up with your other half on the sofa in your Christmas onesie, heat up the mulled wine and finally watch that movie you’ve been talking about seeing together since the summer.
