The nights are closing in, so it’s time to enjoy the last of your summer stretch!

Never underestimate the benefits of a good stretch. Taking time to stretch is so good for your body and wellbeing.

Stretching:

  • Increases flexibility
  • Reduces muscle soreness
  • Improves your range of motion
  • At the end of a workout or walk it brings your muscles back to pre-exercised state, which helps to prevent injury
  • It also improves your general circulation by increasing blood flow to all your muscles

If you want to take it a little further than just basic stretching and you want to achieve even better flexibility, then yoga can help too. Not only are you getting all the benefits of traditional stretching, but much more focus on individual areas too. There are several types of yoga, and it’s great at the end of a hectic day to rejuvenate and relax while also grabbing a workout. On top of that, yoga will help to improve flexibility, endurance & strength.

I’ve tried Vinyasa Flow Yoga before. It’s very effective and I actually felt quite chilled out afterwards. It’s also fast paced and challenging though, let’s just say you definitely won’t nod off mid-class! There is a guided relaxation section at the end of the class to relax, providing a great combo of total body and mind workout.

With Ashtanga/Vinyasa Flow Yoga you can expect to burn between 300 – 500 calories in an hour-long class.

Hot Yoga is another form worth trying out. All the benefits of stretching and yoga are heightened again by the fact that you are in a heated room of between 30-37 degrees Celsius. The air in the studio is fresh, hypoallergenic, clean, oxygenated air, again helping to detoxify the body further.

So stretch out, and give yoga a go – you’ll feel great!

Enjoy,

Georgina
