You’d like to think that you can always count on your parents. We tend to assume that our mammies and daddies will always stand by us, love us and support us regardless of things like our gender, our age or our sexual orientation.

Therefore, we’ll admit, we weren’t exactly sure what to make of this story. A billionaire playboy who claims to have slept with over 10,000 women is trying to dictate the sexuality of his children.

Cecil Chao, a 76-year-old property and shipping mogul, is offering a €50million ‘marriage bounty’ to any man who can win the heart of his daughter. There’s just one problem, his daughter is a lesbian and has just married her long-term female partner.

So basically, Mr Chao isn’t happy with the fact that his daughter is a lesbian and wants a man to swoop in and turn her straight for a fee of €50million. Excellent parenting, huh?

Mr Chao announced the reward shortly after his daughter Gigi tied the knot with her partner. Refusing to accept his daughter’s marriage, Mr Chao said he would pay the eye-watering sum of money to any men who were up to the challenge.

The Hong Kong businessman openly dismissed “false reports” of his daughter’s wedding and insisted that she was still single in his eyes.

“I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor – the important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted,” said Mr Chao, speaking about the ideal husband he wants to find for his daughter.

“Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work,” he added.

Mr Chao has offered an insane amount of money to the male population.

At present, same-sex marriages are not officially recognised in Hong Kong and according to reports, Mr Chao’s bizarre offer came about last week when Gigi announced at an event in Beijing that she had married her long-term partner, Sean Eav, five months ago in France.

In addition to his ‘marriage bounty’ Mr Chao, who has never been married himself, has also offered to set up his potential son-in-law within his own business.

According to Mr Chao, the money is “an inducement to attract someone who has the talent, but not the capital, to start his own business.”

But what does Gigi think about her father’s hair-brained scheme to turn her straight?

The BBC is reporting that she is finding her father’s plan “entertaining” and wouldn’t give it too much thought until he managed to find an actual suitor, but even then it was unlikely she would leave her wife for him.
