“Facebook cloning”.

Facebook users have been warned to be careful of a new scam doing the rounds.

According to The Daily Express, people have been sharing statuses warning others to be careful of ‘Facebook Cloning’, whereby information and photos from your Facebook account can be taken to create a new profile.

Of course, it’s a scaremongering tactic to a degree as only public information can be accessed and not private but it’s important to be diligent at all times nonetheless.

The frightening part is that hackers can then use this new profile to befriend your contacts and apparently, some have done so, pretending to be stuck abroad without access to money.

The friend might lend funds thinking they’re speaking to someone they know and if they do, they’ve fallen victim to the scam.

The best way to protect against this is to double check your privacy settings and amp then up if necessary.

If you feel your account might have been cloned, visit the fake account, click on the cover photo and use the instructions given to file a complaint report.
