If you've ever wondered where your old toys disappear to, a new survey could hold all the answers. Research conducted by packaging recycling scheme, Repak, revealed that a large majority of parents throw out their children's old toys in the run up to Christmas without telling them. According to the Irish Mirror, half of Irish parents worry that there won't be enough space in the house, with six in ten admitting they throw out old playthings in anticipation of the new presents. And it's likely they'll keep doing it, as only one in four children ever notice anything amiss, and only one-eighth of those kids turn on the waterworks after the discovery. Reasons for throwing out the toys include the fact that the kids don't play with them anymore, they are dirty, and they take up too much space. Commenting on the research, Repak CEO Seamus Clancy said: "The volume of gifts, toys and food that land on Irish households each Christmas can be a source of joy and a source of concern all at once, as our research shows. "To ease the burden on staff working around the clock to process the influx of waste packaging materials, we’re asking people to recycle smarter by ensuring the correct items are going into their recycling bin. "Ireland has made major improvements in packaging recycling rates and at the busiest time of year, we’re asking to recycle more and recycle better and help us keep up the good work."
