Time flies when you’re having fun…
That’s the line anyway, right?
On this date in 2012, Her.ie was born. Twelve months later, we’re happily celebrating greater success than we could ever have hoped for. Thank you.
In the months before, women from all corners of the country headed for a beautiful old Georgian building in Dublin to begin work on what would become our lovely online home.
It was an awkward first date, as most first dates tend to be. We were nervous, excited, giddy and hopeful. We had many, many ideas, and we were so eager to bring them to the audience we hoped we’d find.
Months of preparation went in to getting the site ready, stories prepped, and a buzz created about what was happening. Families, friends, partners, pets and social lives took a back seat, it was firmly All About Her, but that was part of the fun.
Being involved in a start-up is one of the most exciting, enjoyable, heart-breaking, life-affirming experiences anyone will ever have. That is, of course, not to say that the company itself was a start up – our bothers at JOE.ie had paved the way admirably, and made us newbies feel so very welcome from that first day.
As the summer sun faded, (we got two weeks of it last year, we have pictures), July 2nd loomed. No one slept the night of July 1st; such were the nerves and excitement.
But, if the build-up seemed to be forever, the months since have passed by in a flash. Summer came and went, and by Christmas we were happily ensconced in a beautiful new office, fit to accommodate the growing Her.ie and JOE.ie teams. Since January, it seems like we haven’t taken the foot off the pedal once, and here we are at the date of our very first birthday.
Now, we have a social media following of over 50,000 people, and an incredible half a million people log on to our site every single month. We hoped that what we were doing would strike a chord, but in our wildest dreams we couldn’t have imagined that.
We have some big plans for the coming year, and part of that involves opening the door even more to your feedback. If you’ve got something you want to see more of on the site, or subjects you think we should be tackling, get in touch. You’ll always find us on [email protected], so say hello.
Everything we have achieved so far, and the exciting plans we have for the future – that’s all down to you, our readers. To celebrate, we’re giving away some amazing prizes, (you can find out all about that here), but we also want to say thank you, and say it loudly.
So, thank you, for a wonderful first year, and here’s to many more.
With love,
Michelle x
