Ever been tempted into a tipple by the smell of a nice liqueur?
It seems that we’re not the only ones, but luckily our fondness for the odd glass doesn’t usually result in complete mayhem (most of the time anyway).
Elephants on the other hand, can’t handle their drink.
The Times of India reports that a herd of over 50 elephants left their forest patch last Sunday to travel to the nearby village of Dumurkota, drawn by the smell of Mahua – an Indian country liquor made from the mahuwa flower.
The elephants raided the shop selling the Mahua, and managed to polish off 18 containers of the stuff.

It seems the alcohol didn’t exactly agree with them though, as the merry mammals went on to rampage through three houses and damaged large paddy crops in their drunken stupor.
A police spokesman said of the incident that the animals were ‘aggressive and unreasonable’, which comes as no surprise really. We can’t help thinking, were it to happen here they would have fit right in at Coppers…
