We’re known as the land of a thousand welcomes, and now it seems we could be seeing an influx of visitors to celebrate the New Year after a glowing recommendation from the National Geographic.
Spotted by our brothers over at JOE.ie, the magazine tipped our capital in an article titled ‘Best Winter Trips 2016’, which highlight the must-see destinations this winter.
It seems we could be taking on our Scottish partners famed for Hogmanay, with our own New Year’s Eve celebrations being the main element of attraction.
The New Year’s Eve Festival, which is now in its third year, has now been extended to three days of music, arts, culture and festivities, with an annual countdown concert.
Features editor Amy Alipio highlights how the ‘arts, culture, and live entertainment festival includes dazzling streetscapes illuminated by 3-D light projections’, while promising a family friendly atmosphere with many free events.
As well as stopping off in the Abbey Theatre, Alipio also suggests taking in culture sites like the Guinness Storehouse (which won Europe’s Best Tourist Attraction earlier this year), and stocking up on signature pieces from Irish designer Orla Kiely.
