Our lovely fair capital city Dublin has ranked pretty high this week on Lonely Planet’s list of the top ten cities in the world to visit for 2016.

Dublin comes in third on the list and is described as being a place that “pulsates with youthful vibrancy, optimism and creativity”.

The popular travel guide also lists the centenary celebrations for the 1916 Easter Rising as another reason to visit, with visitors told to expect the celebrations to be “long and loud”.

“No longer a dirty auld town, Dublin has a healthy hue, with people embracing its inner green spaces and exploring the wild outdoor arenas along the coast and beyond the pale,” it reads.

Meanwhile, Kotor in Montenegro bagged first spot, with Quito in Ecuador claiming second.

The remainder of the top ten (in case you are looking for some travel inspiration) included George Town (Malaysia), Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Mumbai (India), Fremantle (Australia), Manchester (England), Nashville (USA) and Rome (Italy).
