Drive-in Sex, Anyone? Officials in Switzerland Launch “Sex Boxes” to Help Control Prostitution

We've heard about drive-in films and drive-thru takeaways, but drive-in sex? Eh...

We’re already familiar with drive-in films, drive-thru takeaways and, unfortunately, drive-thru funerals, but we raised a collective eyebrow when we came across the latest drive-in phenomenon. Ladies, allow us to introduce you to drive-in sex. Yes, sex.

The Huffington Post reports that local authorities in Zurich, Switzerland are planning on building a series of drive-in “sex boxes” so prostitutes have a “discreet” environment where they can meet their clients.

The sex boxes look like garages and are large enough for a car to be parked inside. These boxes will facilitate meetings for around 30 prostitutes and clients will be allowed to use the slots on a first-come (heh!) first-served basis.

As we already know, prostitution is 100 per cent legal in Switzerland, although officials have struggled with trying to control sex-related crimes.

“We can’t get rid of prostitution, so have to learn how to control it,” said Reto Casanova, a spokesman for Zurich’s police force.

The decision to build the sex boxes was also motivated by locals who were unhappy looking at prostitutes walking the streets. And according to Michael Herzig, from Zurich’s social welfare department, the naughty boxes will also be beneficial for the prostitutes themselves.

“The women will be better protected from attack, and it will also mean better business for them,” said Mr Herzig.

“With the women right by the sex boxes there is no ‘travel time’ so they can deal with more customers,” he added.

Drive-in sex boxes have already been constructed in several cities in Germany.
