We knew that there was going to be a cracking weekend of football in store this weekend as the Tesco Homegrown National Football League continued, but what an amazing weekend of sport it turned out to be.

In Division 1, there was a rollercoaster of a ride for supporters as two of the games came right down to the wire.

Cork pipped Kerry to victory by just one point on a final scoreline of 1-13 to 1-12 after a nerve-wracking finish. Elsewhere, there was nothing to separate Galway and Dublin and they had to share the spoils when the final whistle sounded with the game tied at 2-9 to 1-12.

Mayo secured their first win of the league after losing out to Cork last weekend with a comprehensive 1-14 to 0-5 win over Laois while on Friday, Monaghan overcame Tyrone 5-12 to 2-5.

Armagh meanwhile were resounding winners over Westmeath on a 6-12 to 1-10 scoreline and there was another emphatic win in Division 2 as Donegal ran out 6-16 to 0-7 winners over Down.

Cavan were also victors with a 4-13 to 1-8 win over Kildare.

Moving into Division 3, and Waterford claimed a 24-point win over Fermanagh, 5-12 to 0-3, while Roscommon beat off the challenge from near neighbours Longford on a scoreline of 3-14 to 0-6.

Leitrim had 10 points to spare over Tipperary, 3-13 to 3-3, while the old adage that goals win games rang true for Sligo who saw off the challenge from Wexford 4-8 to 0-5.

Meanwhile Offaly kickstarted their campaign in style with a phenomenal 8-19 to 1-4 win over Derry.
