Harvey Weinstein has announced he has renewed partnership with Walt Disney studios for the adaption of Irish author’s ‘Artemis Fowl.’

Wexford born author Eoin Colfer described the best-selling eight volume series as “Die Hard with fairies,” as Artemis captures a cheeky talking fairy to employ her magic in order to save his family.

The film will cover the first two books in the series, adapted by the screenwriter for ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,’ Michael Goldenberg with a release date yet to be announced.

The series of books follows the adventures of 12-year-old millionaire Artemis, who is a criminal mastermind.

Weinstein brothers famously parted ways with Disney in 2005 after a hostile relationship and in the same year founded the Weinstein Company, best known for the critically acclaimed and Oscar-winning ‘The King’s Speech.’

“If you would have told me five years ago I would be producing a project with Disney I would have thought you were crazy,” said Weinstein.

Robert DeNiro and Jane Rosenthal introduced Weinstein to the series, and in a statement explained why this project was special to him.

“I feel as though everything is coming full circle considering Bob DeNiro and Jane Rosenthal brought me this book while I was still at Miramax and within hours I told them I wanted the rights to the film.”

“This is a special project for me because my children absolutely love this book. This story is for everyone and there is no one better than Disney to make a film that will excite people young and old,” he added.
