The Department of Foreign Affairs has updated their travel advice for Irish people travelling to, from or within, Belgium or France this week.
For those going to France, the Department is advising people to “exercise extreme caution”.
“A state of emergency has been declared in France following multiple events on 13 November 2015,” a statement on their website reads.
“Citizens in Paris should exercise extreme caution and follow the instructions of the local authorities.
“Irish citizens travelling within, to or from France should expect additional security measures,” the advice, which was updated last night, continues.
“Some public buildings and spaces such as galleries, museums, shopping centres and cinemas may be closed until further notice. Sporting and music events may be cancelled. “
Meanwhile, those travelling to Belgium are also advised to “exercise extreme caution”.
“The Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel announced on 22 November that the maximum level of alert (level 4) will continue in the Brussels region,” the website reads.
“People travelling to Belgium are advised to be vigilant and to follow the advice of the Belgian authorities.
