You can no longer deny it, Netflix has certainly managed to crowbar itself into the coveted best drama section for TV series and boy, are they doing a good job of it. Not only did they managed to fund and create the wonderful Orange is the New Black, their re-working of the English miniseries House of Cards has certainly gone down a storm.
Here are twelve lessons we have learned from Frank Underwood and co.
1. NEVER trust a politician
Just never. Just don't. Well, definitely don't trust Frank Underwood anyway.
2. Spacey is the master of THE LOOK.
Every single time...
3. A journalist will do anything to get a good story.
This is only true some of the time. Just some of the time.
4. Give and take is very important.
Well, giving to Frank Underwood is very important.
5. Better directors make for a better show.
Yes, that's correct, David Fincher directed the first episode.
6. You no longer need a TV.
Netflix have mastered the world of streaming here in Ireland but they have also got it right in other ways. The threw plenty of money at House of Cards to make it work but they also gave a LOT of freedom to their directors, allowing them to create an unbelievably brilliant project.
7. Everyone is ambitious.
At first, you might think it's just Frank, but no, everyone is out for themselves here.
8. There is always something on somebody.
If you keep digging far enough, you will find info on just about everyone.
9. There is no place for emotion in politics.
Not at funerals, not with your wife, not for pity. Just nowhere. Grim and bleak.
10. Power is King/Queen
Money can get you so far, but as far as Frank Underwood is concerned, power is king.
