Dating Has Changed And Love Hearts Have Taken Note With Tinder-Inspired Sweets

Hmm... this is a bit hard to swallow.

Do you think this is the death of romance? Or Super-sweet?

Our favourite retro sweets, Love Hearts, have had a techie makeover courtesy of 2015 and the internet.

The little heart-shaped treats, famed for their quaint, romantic messages have come kicking and screaming into the world of online dating.

The makers of traditional Love Hearts sweets have had a modern makeover with new phrases like "take a selfie" and "tweet me" joining favourites like ìhug meî and ìyouíre mineî. British sweet makers Swizzels came up with the new designs to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic Love Hearts, with the inclusion of new contemporary messages on their famous sweets for the first time ever. Swizzels asked fans of the brand to submit suggestions for messages, finally selecting 14 messages from thousands of suggestions. The new messages include modern and current phrases such as, ëSKYPE MEí, ëTAKE A SELFIEí, ëTWEET MEí, ëSWIPE RIGHTí, ëTOTES HILARí and ëYOLOí. Other winning messages are more regional: ëALREET PETí and the Welsh phrase ëCWTCH (cuddle) MEí. The 14 winners, who each submitted a different message, were invited on a VIP trip to Swizzels HQ this week to see the Love Hearts come off the production line with the new messages printed on them. They will now go on sale around the UK. Swizzels has been making Love Hearts for 60 years and produce 1.75 billion sweets every year. The brand is famous for featuring a selection of over 150 traditional romantic messages ñ the 14 new additions will be making Love Hearts history! In addition to the modern messages, some messages were personal to fans of the brand, including ìMiracles Happenî and ìHot Wheelsî.

To celebrate the nostalgic sweet range’s 60th anniversary, Swizzels asked fans to send in their suggestions for 14 contemporary messages to go on the hearts.

Now, messages like “swipe right” “Totes hilar” and “take a selfie” have found their way into packets.

Her reader Shauna Smyth found a tinder-inspired sweet in her pack, and sent it into us noting that “sweets are really moving with the times!”
