Save money and do some good for the world around you by using simple measures to conserve energy in the home. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! We’ll be bringing you one great energy-saving tip every day for the next few weeks.
Rearrange your rooms
We’ve already told you how simple things like investing in good curtains, checking your fireplace and swapping your lightbulbs can save you mass amounts of money on your electricity bill and this next tip is just as easy.
In fact, you’ll probably wonder why you never thought of it before!
The next time you have a spare afternoon or evening, go to your living room, shut the doors and windows and see if you can feel a draught anywhere.
According to energy-saving experts, simply rearranging your room can not only make you more comfortable it can also cut down on the amount of electricity you use via central heating and/or the amount of fuel you use (if you light a fire).
Move your furniture around so you’re sitting near interior walls (walls that are on the inside. For example, the wall that separates your living room from the kitchen/hall).
Sitting near an exterior wall or window is more likely to make you feel cold and chilly as draught can sneak in through tiny cracks.
Sit somewhere that you’re warm and you’ll have less need for central heating or the fire, which means that you’ll save money in the long run. Not to mention doing this will also benefit your health – sitting in a draft isn’t exactly good for you!
Spend five to ten minutes doing a bit of a rearrange. Who knows? You might find that your new living room layout works ten times better and feels far more comfortable than the old one.
