Creepin’ It Real: When It Comes To Facebook Stalking, We Just Can’t Help Ourselves!

Whether it's stalking an ex, creeping on a current partner or checking out his ex-girlfriend online, we're all guilty of doing a bit of social media snooping on a regular basis

It seems that the clean break is a thing of the past and we have social media to blame for this fact. Back in the day when your relationship ended, you could easily wash Mr. Wrong out of your hair.

Now though, the temptation to have a creep on his Facebook page is strong and it seems that your Twitter feed is suddenly filled with status about him and what he’s up to.

If you’ve ever had a sneaky snoop on one of your former partners the good news is you’re not alone. One third of all adults (who should know better) frequently stalk an ex on Facebook and Twitter, oh and one in five of us are guilty of checking out our current partner’s ex, according to a new survey.

Shockingly, seven per cent of us have also experienced the sheer horror of an ex threatening to post a naughty picture of us online. Awkward!

The survey, which was carried out by McAfee and MSI Internatonal, revealed that even if you’re in a happy relationship you might not be safe from social media snooping.

More than half of us share our social media passwords and other login details with our other half, and 42 per cent of us admit to having a peep at our partner’s email inboxes.

Most of us give our partners full access to our phones and email inboxes

The strange thing is hat despite this lack of privacy, 54 per cent of the people surveyed revealed that they keep personal or intimate texts, emails or photographs on their mobile phone.

“We’re a trusting bunch when it comes to sharing personal content with our nearest and dearest, but it’s important to remember the potential repercussions if things go wrong,” said Raj Samani from McAfee.

“People should keep passwords and pins to themselves and think twice before posting personal information to social media. Sending a cheeky Valentine’s Day message is all part of the fun, but simple precautons can ensure that those intimate images remain private,” he added.

Are you happy enough to share your personal login details with your other half or do you believe tat a certain element of privacy is important?
