This is interesting.
Tinder can be thanked for breaking the stigma of online dating and making it more accessible for everyone.
And while some people may just used the likes of Tinder for a bit of fun or casual hook-up, more and more people are meeting potential long-term partners on the app.
It turns out that people who get together through online dating are statistically more likely to have a happy marriage.
In a study by the University of Chicago 19,131 people responded to a survey by Harris Interactive about their marriages and satisfaction.
About 6% of people who dating online had broken up in comparison to 7.6% of people who met offline.
People were also asked to rate their marriage satisfaction and online daters reported a score of around 5.64 in comparison to the score of 5.48 given by people who met offline.
The study did not determine a definite reason as to why the online marriages were happier but has some theories.
It ”provide a larger pool of prospective marriage partners, along with advance screening in the case of dating services.
And although deception often occurs online, studies suggest that people are relatively honest in online dating encounters; the lies tend to be minor misrepresentations of weight or height.”
Perhaps it is because you are consciously choosing to get to know a person slowly and patiently rather than a chance meeting in a bar where you did not consciously plan to get involved with someone.
Whatever the reason, it looks like online daters are slightly happier in their long-term relationships, so if you haven’t already, maybe download Tinder or Happn and see what happens.
