As the saying goes, eating is a necessity and cooking is an art. We certainly agree that cooking is an art. A complex, mysterious art that we’ll never quite master.Â
Whether you were top of your Home Ec class, or if you’re the queen of burnt toast, here are ten thoughts we’ve all had at some point while cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
1. When you’re cooking rice…
How am I supposed to know when this is done? Wait, was I supposed to leave it uncovered or covered? Why is it boiling over so much?
Ah feck, another big pot of rice ruined. It looks disgusting. I can’t eat that.
2. When you’re reading a recipe…
Does anyone actually know the difference between ‘Virgin’ and ‘extra Virgin’? And how can something be ‘extra Virgin’? I don’t understand.
3. When you’re trying to recreate a dinner from your childhood…
Well, it certainly didn’t taste or look like this when Mam used to make it.
4. When it’s all going to plan…
Wow, I’m really good at this. And I’m enjoying myself. I should definitely cook more often. And throw dinner parties for my friends. Have I actually missed my calling as a chef?
5. When it’s not going to plan…
I did everything I was supposed to do. I followed every step of the recipe. Why the hell doesn’t it look like the picture? I’m so sad.
6. When you’re hungry…
Ah, I’ll just have another taste. Anyway, you’re supposed to taste as you cook. I was definitely told that at some point.
7. When you’re really hungry…
Why is this taking so long? I’m starving. #cantcope
8. When something sticks to the pan…
9. When you’re cooking for yourself…
Serves two? We’ll see about that.
10. When you’re cooking for other people…
Is this enough food? I definitely haven’t made enough. This is just not worth the stress.
