Irish passengers will be thrilled with this!
Speculation was mounting this week ahead of the announcement of three new transatlantic routes by Aer Lingus.
While rumours suggested that the airline would be revealing plans to fly to LA, Connecticut and Miami, the official announcement was made today with some very exciting, but slightly different details.
First off, the airline will begin a year-round direct service between Dublin and LA from May 2016 – with five services per week.
After that, it will be the turn of Newark, New Jersey, where Aer Lingus will begin flying daily from early September of next year, while later that same month, they will also commence a daily service to Connecticut.
It has been reported that the new route expansion will create more than 200 jobs for the airline.
“The introduction of these three routes will open up new tourism and business opportunities with improved connectivity through our Dublin Gateway,” stated Aer Lingus CEO Stephen Kavanagh.
