Cold, Miserable & Dark? As If! 10 Things We Love About January

Yes, Christmas is over and yes, we're all back in work but here are 10 reasons why we love January (and why you should too!)

Her

Ah January, you’re a month in which everything feels a bit grey. You roll around and remind us that it’s time for the festive fun to end. You’re cold, dark, miserable and you have a nasty habit of destroying our bank accounts with your constant bills.

In short, January, you’re a month that nobody really likes. However, this year we’re trying to have a change of heart about you dear January. We’re trying to see the side of you that so many people forget. We know that deep down, January, you’re just a bit misunderstood – like quantum physics or Lindsay Lohan.

Here at Her.ie towers we’re firm believers that life is what you make it. So if you’ve been suffering from the January blues, here are a few things that may help you see the month in an entirely different light.

10 Things We Love About January

10. Down time: After the frantic energy of Christmas we’ll admit that we’re feeling a little bit tired and run down. Thankfully all our friends (and ourselves) are usually pretty broke as the New Year dawns. This means that January offers us a time to kick back, relax and have a mini-hibernation without our BFFs begging us to go and do stuff.

9. Open fires: It’s still cold enough to warrant setting a massive fire and keeping it going for the entire evening. Is there anything better than curling up in front of the telly with a massive mug of tea while a huge fire roars in the hearth?

8. Warm clothes: Yes, you can wear six layers of clothing if you feel like it. It’s so cold outside no one will question your new, strange sartorial preferences. Layer on the fleece!

January doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom

7. You get a clean slate: January offers us all the possibility of a brand new year. In January, past mistakes are forgotten, new beginnings are embraced and you get another shot at creating the type of life you want for yourself. It’s hard not to get caught up in the feelings of optimism and joy that are bouncing around the place during January.

6. Getting your cuddle on: Baby, it’s freezing outside so what better way to warm up than snuggling up with your other half or a furry friend?

5. You find joy in the simple things: In January, life slows down and the focus is put on enjoying the simple things in life. Whether it’s having a chat with your best friend or spending a bit of time with your family, be grateful for all the small things that come your way during the month. It will give you a positive boost and you could find your perspective on things changing for the better.

4. We’re open to change: The New Year is all about making changes and adapting to things. January shows us that we have the ability to change direction if we haven’t been on the right course and that we can achieve anything as long as we put our minds to it.

3. Plans get made: Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway abroad with your other half over the summer or whether you’re just planning a weekend away with the girls, January is the month when holidays get booked, plans get made and dreams come true.

Will you be booking your summer holidays soon?

2. You can look back and feel proud: While the start of the year offers us a wealth of new beginnings, it also gives us a chance to look back on the previous 12 months and to see just how far we’ve come. Cast an eye back, have a think about how you got to where you are right now and celebrate all your accomplishments. You deserve it.

1. The days are getting longer: You may not notice the slight stretch in the evenings just yet, but give it a few weeks and you’ll see that the darkness of winter is finally starting to lift and hey, it’s only five months until summer (if that isn’t something to get excited about we don’t know what is!).
