Classic Book Of The Week… Pride And Prejudice

With our hectic lives and all of the new books that we are trying to keep on top of, we can often forget about the classics, those books that we loved to re-visit or the books that we just haven’t got to quite yet. Every week, we pick a classic book of the week that is a favourite of ours in the office. This week we talk about the wonderful Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen's novel, considered by most as a "novel of manners", was originally published in 1813 and has to date sold about 20 million copies. One of literature's most loved books, Pride and Prejudice has been translated onto the big screen in many brilliant films and the small screen with a fantastic miniseries. Revolving around its central character Elizabeth Bennet, the book is set in the 19th century and deals with the day-to-day lives of five sisters who are all at different stages in their lives. Elizabeth documents her life and that of her sisters by describing her education, marriage prospects and the men in both their lives. Elizabeth, though she constantly tries to deny it, falls in love with the mysterious, and at times quite rude, Mr. Darcy while Jane falls for the lovely Mr. Bingley. However, the course of true love never runs smooth. Arguably one of the best novels you will ever read, Pride and Prejudice deserves its place as one of the most beloved books of all time with Elizabeth and Darcy one of literature's most intriguing couples. This is simply a must read. And if you have read it, worth reading it again.
