An industry expert has predicted that chocolate may run out in seven years due to a shortage of cocoa.
Angus Kennedy, editor of Kennedy’s Confection magazine, said that the future of the chocolate bar as we know it is under threat because cocoa crops are being chopped down.
He told The Mirror: “I have tasted the chocolate bar of the future and it’s nothing like the chocolate we know and love.
“It will be much sweeter as sugar is the cheapest ingredient and can be used to hide the fact that there is less cocoa powder. Cocoa butter and cocoa are the most expensive ingredients in the product and will be replaced with cheaper ingredients like raisins and nougat.”
He explained that as a result of more vegetable fat in the mixture, the product will be “more bendy and sludgy in texture.”
Guess we better start stocking up on the Dairy Milk now so!
