Chinese Company Offers Bonus to Employees That Have a Workplace Romance

Would you ever consider getting jiggy with a work colleague? What if your boss was willing to pay you extra to do so?

While most of us would be absolutely mortified if our office romance became public knowledge in the workplace, a firm in China is actually encouraging its employees to hook up and make it public by offering them cash incentives in return.

Yes, we couldn’t believe it either but the Chengdu cloud computing company in China is offering 1,112 Chinese Yuan (that’s roughly €140 to us) to any two employees who start up a workplace romance.

According to Business Insider Chengdu executives said that they came up with the idea after seeing the emotional turmoil of their young workers when it came to love. Therefore it only seemed logical to offer young singletons a raise if they were willing to say goodbye to the single life.

The company is hoping that the new initiative will boost morale and create an “even more harmonious team.”

Getting paid to make googly-eyes at the hottie who works in marketing? Sounds like a fair deal!

We just have one question – what happens if two co-workers have an incredibly bitter break-up? Wouldn’t that make things a little awkward for everyone else?

Of course the company has already considered this and has stated that it is willing to offer two days leave for any office couple that decides to part ways. How considerate of them. We wonder if they’ll be supplying the Kleenex, a copy of The Notebook and the Ben&Jerry’s too?

The launch of the company’s new romance scheme coincided with national Singles Day in China on November 11. The holiday is an anti-Valentine’s Day if you will and celebrates all the goodness that being single has to offer.

What do you think? Would you start batting your eyelashes at your male colleagues if it meant you’d get a bonus?
