Is there anyone in your life who is hoping for a Kit Kat Chunky Easter egg this year? If so you might want to read this. Nestle has withdrawn “tens of thousands” of chocolate bars and Easter eggs from the market after people complained that they were finding plastic in the sweets.

The Daily Mail reports that the Kit Kat Chunky Collection Giant Egg and the Chunky Choc Fudge, Caramel, Peanut Butter and Hazelnut bars were recalled over the weekend because  people claimed they had found plastic in the products.

It is believed that the plastic had broken off a mould in the factory in Bulgaria where the chocolate bars and eggs are made.

“This is a precautionary measure,” said Odette Forbes, a spokeswoman from Kit Kat, speaking about the product recall.

“It’s only items with certain best before dates and if you buy one of the bars or an egg from a shop now, it will be from an unaffected batch,” Ms Forbes added.

After buying a Kit Kat Chunky egg? Check the dates!

So which Kit Kat products should you avoid? The chocolate fudge and hazelnut bars that have a best before date between September and October 2013, the caramel bars that have a date of June or July 2013 and the peanut butter bars that have a date of September 2013 and February 2014 have all been recalled.

In terms of Easter eggs, products that have a best before date of July 2013 have been affected.

Nestle is advising customers who have bought any of the above products not to eat them and to send them back to the company for a full refund. The company also issued a statement where it apologised to its customers.

“The safety and quality of our products are non-negotiable priorities for the company. We sincerely apologise to our consumers for any inconvenience caused by this voluntary recall,” said the statement.
