Joan Burton was crowned this year’s Woman of the Year by Irish Tatler over the weekend, but is now the focus of massive backlash as a result.
A Facebook page has been set up boycotting the magazine and demanding that the politician’s award be revoked immediately.
Angry readers vented their frustration on Facebook.
Irate readers are calling on the 65-year-old, who became the leader of the Labour party in July of this year, to give the award back for a number of different reasons, not least recent political policies.
@irishtatler @joan_burton Horrifyingly mistimed decision. Demonstrates a massive disconnect between media and the public #mediabubble

@irishtatler @joan_burton not by a long shot. Thousands of women in her position would have stuck to core beliefs and walked. #disgrace
