A British woman who was kidnapped and held hostage for 13 years has told her story for the first time in a new book called Secret Slave.
Anna (name changed to protect her identity) was kidnapped just two days after her 15th birthday. Confined to a room, her only outings were to a hospital to birth four children which she claims her captor sold.
I excerpts of her book, obtained by The Mirror, Anna explains that as a teen, she was staying with a friend of her mum’s. She was captured by an Asian taxi man, Malik, who worked with that friend.
“If anyone showed me affection I grabbed hold of that,” Anna explained.
“Malik would ask me how I was. It was nice to have someone interested.”
“When he asked me to go back to his house for tea he knew no one would miss me.”
“There are a lot of vulnerable girls like I was. This could be happening on any street.”
Malik kept Anna confined to a room.
“I can still see that bedroom, the corner where I would rock in pain. Although after a while I stopped feeling pain, I think my body shut down,” she says.
“And I can smell it – the can I used as a toilet, the garlic he reeked of. I got to the point where I didn’t know what life was.”
Anna explains that Malik disguised her in cultural dress.
“Malik dressed me in his culture’s clothes, dyed my hair black, made me wear a scarf and keep my head down. When he spoke for me they thought it was a cultural thing. And I think people are scared to be accused of discrimination.”
Anna explains that Malik lived with his brothers, their wives and children. He called her a “Filthy white s***” and said he would make her is own. Malik proceeded to rape the teen nightly and began prostituting her to other men, including his brothers.
The only time the abuse stopped was when Anna fell pregnant. She quickly realized that this was because Malik could profit on the sale of her boy children.
She describes feeling happy when she realized she was pregnant.
“When you feel a baby move in your stomach you feel you have someone with you, you are not alone.”
But once the child was born, Malik took him away.
“I barely held any of my babies, I did not get the chance to be a mother to them,” Anna says.
“I do not know where they are,” Anna reveals.
Anna managed to escape when a health visitor came to the house. Anna wrote a note saying Help Me next to a date. The health worker picked it up and replied with a note reading:
“I will ring the house phone three times when I’m outside.”
Anna escaped and alerted the police to her situation. By that time, Malik had also rang claiming his wife had run away and that she had severe mental health issues.
Anna is now 44 and had been free for 16 years.
