This story is breaking.
Reports suggest that Vladimir Nikitin will no longer fight in tomorrow’s Olympic semi-final.
Yesterday, Nikitin was declared victor of a fight with Irish boxer Michael Conlan, a decision that was viewed as grossly unfair by many.
The general consensus was that Belfast man Conlan had dominated the fight and it came as a major shock when Nikitin was announced as the winner.
Spotted on JOE.ie, the latest development suggests that Nikitin, who hails from Russia, sustained too many injuries in the fight and as a result, he can no longer fight.
He was due to compete against Shakur Stevenson of the USA in the men’s bantamweight semi-final tomorrow but recent reports suggest this has been cancelled.
Here’s the latest from Rio de Janeiro this evening although bear in mind that at the moment, these are just reports:
Here’s a scoop. US Head coach Billy Walsh says Shakur Stevenson advances on W/o tomorrow. Nikitin’s face a mess after Conlan @StiffJab

Insult to injury? Nikitin was F’d up so badly by @mickconlan11 & previous Thai opponent (both controversial) that he can’t fight semi v USA

Nikitin can’t advance through to next round because of injury – @AIBA_Boxing should stick the winner @mickconlan11 back in!
