Breaking up is never an easy thing to do – actually it’s pretty horrific. But what’s the best way to let someone one? A new survey has revealed the differences between men and women when it comes to dumping someone.

The survey, which was carried out by sugar daddy dating website SeekingArrangement.com, revealed that while men just want to end the relationship as quickly as possible, us womenfolk are more concerned about letting a man down gently. Sounds like us, right?

So what lines do we use? Well number one was the simple: “I’m just not ready for a commitment yet,” closely followed by the ever-popular line: “This is going way too fast for me.”

Surprisingly, of the women surveyed, the vast majority cited “You don’t earn enough money” as the third most common line used when it comes to dumping a love interest. Harsh, right?

In comparison, men’s number one reason when it came to ending a relationship was: “It’s just not working.”

The survey revealed that for men, a dull sex life and a lack of physical compatibility are all grounds for dumping and are far more important for men than they are for women.

It’s not you, it’s me: both sexes use cliched lines when it comes to ending a romance

When it comes to dumping someone, both men and women preferred to end a relationship face-to-face, but doing it via phone came a close second for both sexes.

“Relationships work when one whole person attracts another whole person. If you’re giving 50 per cent, and the other is giving 50 per cent, it’s not going to work. Both of you need to commit to giving the relationship no less than 100 per cent,” said Louise Van Der Velde, a dating expert.

“And I think it’s so healthy for people to be honest about their expectations in a relationship. Work out what you want and don’t settle for less,” she added.

Wise words indeed. How do you go about ending things when you know a romance isn’t going to work out? Are you a face-to-face type girl or do you prefer to do it over the phone?
