The Belfast sky was lit up last night with paper lanterns in tribute to five-year-old Oscar Knox who passed away at the end of last week.
The little boy from Belfast had been fighting neuroblastoma, a cancer of specialised nerve cells, for over two years.
Hundreds of tweets poured in from people praising Oscar’s bravery and offering their condolences to his family, as paper lanterns were released into the sky.

Oscar was a Celtic football fan and at yesterday’s match against Dundee, fans wearing black armbands sang You’ll Never Walk Alone whilst holding scarves printed with messages such as “courage of a champion”.

The five-year-old’s funeral took place yesterday at St.Bernard’s Church in Glengormley, Co. Antrim, yesterday where Oscar’s father Stephen and mother Leona paid tribute to their “wee man”.
Stephen said: “He (Oscar) was mischievous and unbelievably funny. He had the most wonderful wee personality. And he had the uncanny ability to wrap people around his little finger the second he meet them.”
Leona spoke of how one of Oscar’s favourite films was Peter Pan and how she and Stephen had explained Oscar would go on a journey there and there would be “no more sore knees, no sore heads and sore tummies”.
Oscar had replied: “This is the best day ever”.
