A bakery is facing legal action in the US after the owner refused to decorate a cake with an anti-gay message and image.

Owner Marjorie Silva refused to decorate a cake for a customer who was looking to have the cakes designed with the words ‘God hates gays’, and draw a picture of two men holding hands with a red cross above it.

The Azucar Bakery in Denver, Colorado called Bill Jack’s request discriminatory and hateful and refused to decorate the cakes, telling him:

“We never refuse service. We did feel that it was not right for us to write hateful words or pictures against human beings.”

Jack was dissatisfied with the service though, saying he was the victim of ‘religious discrimination’.

The bakery later offered to bake the cake and sell the icing, but said they would not support messages supporting hate towards other humans.

Mr Jack, who is a member of the Worldview Academy – an organisation that exists to help people ‘think and live according to the Bible- was not satisfied with this response, telling a local news station he was being ‘discriminated against by the bakery based on my creed’.

He has now filed a complaint with the Department of Regulatory Agencies, and the baker is now under investigation.
