Rescuers discovered Budi in a malnourished condition.

Budi, a baby orangutan was recently rescued from the chicken coop where he spent the first ten months of his life.

Vets from a British animal welfare charity visited Budi’s home in Kubing, Indonesia where he had been existing on a diet of condensed milk.

The International Rescue team said that Budi’s eyes filled with tears when he was lifted out of the cage.

According to various reports, Bud’s owner did not feed him solid food as she feared it would harm him.

CEO of the East Sussex based charity, Alan Knight OBE, said: “Budi was kept in a chicken cage by his owner and fed on nothing but condensed milk. During that time she didn’t give him a single mouthful of solid food for fear it would be bad for him.

“It breaks my heart to think of the pain Budi was in as he became more and more sick. Eventually his owner told the authorities that she wished to hand over the small baby orangutan she was keeping as a pet”.

“No living creature should be forced to live in excruciating pain and misery for months on end – least of all a helpless baby orangutan with no loving mother to comfort him” continued Alan.

The ten-month-old animal has severe anaemia, swollen joints and is currently being treated for a metabolic disease that may have caused long-term damage to his bones.
