An Upset Tummy Can Test Even The Best Relationships But Mairead Farrell Lives To Tell The Tale

It’s not fun and it’s definitely not pretty but a dose of food poisoning can happen to the best of us as Mairead discovers…

The day started out so well… we woke up early, feeling rested then we got up, grabbed the newspapers and read them over coffee.

The sun was out in full – so much so in fact I needed to wear my sunnies! There’s something really lovely about winter sun, crisp cold weather but there’s that hint of heat too. An all-round, dreamy day off spent with my boyfriend.

But cut to 12 hours later and at approximately 4am I woke up with the worst stomach pains ever. I jolted out of the bed to try ease the pain, pacing up and down the landing so I didn’t wake himself.

Then that awful washing machine, nauseas feeling again. My stomach and everything in it was going round and around. And Oh God I’m gonna be sick! Quickly as I could I dashed to the loo. It just kept coming – between the stomach spasms, projectile vomitting and tears rolling down my cheeks my body was out of control. I prayed that most of it had gone into the bowl because I hadn’t time to flick the light switch on the way in.

As I sat on the bathroom floor groaning and sighing with relief I could hear Louis mooching around in the bedroom too. I must have woken him up with all my very unsexy animalistic noises! And because I didnt want to disturb him anymore than I already had and I was sweating like a front-row, female fan at a Bressie gig I decided to go into the spare room. I just needed to be in a cold bed… naively convinced a cold bed would cure me.

Just as I was beginning to drift off to sleep again I heard Louis having a tummy heave-ho in the loo! Right on cue mine decided to have another ‘episode’ but this time he was locked in the bathroom so I had to run downstairs for more ‘business’.

It was at this point that I realised we had food poisoning… I’ve poo pooed (pardon the pun) the safe food ads thinking ‘that’s all a bit much’, the one where the mother is chopping chicken before the vegetables then kisses her daughter. Well, all last week I replayed that ad in my mind. Kitchens whether its your own or a professional one must be extremely careful and vigilant about cleanliness.

On a positive note, I lost about 3lbs and lets face it there’s nothing like a dose of you know what to bring a couple closer together!
