We have a lot of love for David O’ Doherty here in the Her Towers, by ‘a lot’ we really mean that we consider him the greatest comedian in the country. Fangirls? Us? NEVER!
When he’s not standing onstage with his mini electronic keyboard singing about ‘Life‘ or gracing our television screens and inducing so much laughter that it makes our stomach hurt (or enjoying the hipster surroundings of The Fumbally cafe in Dublin – we’re not stalking him, we swear), DO’D is busy writing literature*.
In 2010, along with Mike Ahern and Claudia O’Doherty, David put together a book, ‘100 Facts About Pandas’, that has nothing factual about the animal in it whatsoever.
Unfortunately Fact No.1 – ‘The Panda smells through its ears and hears through its nose, technically making its nose its ears, and its ears its nose’, was not enough of a inclination for one lady who decided to review the book on Amazon.
Awarding it with just one measly star, Mum Caroline was less than impressed with this “April fool’s book”.
We know what you’re thinking, we can’t believe it either.
Thankfully Amazon user, ‘cat-d’, responded to the review:
It is difficult to comprehend how someone could make such a mistake considering that the beginning of the book profiles the authors like this:
Mike Ahern moved from the country to the city to be closer to the Internet. David O’Doherty was the 1990 East Leinster under fourteen triple jump bronze medalist. Claudia O’Doherty is a six-year-old Australian girl who won a competition to write a book with Mike Ahern and David O’Doherty.
If that is not enough, the front cover alone should be somewhat of a giveaway with the Mighty Boosh’s Noel Fielding quoted saying, “a breakthrough in Panda literature”.
Ah Caroline, we really hope that your 9-year-old grows up to love and appreciate the work of DO’D.
*Literature is a strong word.
