Amazon has been heavily criticised for some children’s Halloween costumes they had on sale.
Earlier this week complaints were made to Amazon over ‘sexy’ costumes they had on sale for children as young as five years old.
The costumes, which were on sale from a Hong Kong based lingerie shop, were modelled by young girls and the skirts were just 30cm in length.
The costumes featured short skirts and were labeled as ‘sexy’ girls’ costumes.
On offer for children this Halloween were costumes called, ‘Girl Sexy Panda Animal Halloween’, ‘Girl Sexy Clown Joker Cap and Bells Halloween’, ‘Girl Sexy Racoon Procyon Lotor Animal’ and ‘Girl Sexy Kimono’, among other similar descriptions.
They have since been forced to remove them from their website following complaints from children’s charities.
According to The Sun, Claude Knight, CEO of the Child protection charity, Kidscape, said, “Every year there are a growing number of manufacturers of Halloween costumes who believe, for inexplicable reasons, that outfits should become increasingly sexualised.”
She added, “Costumes are produced for wide age bands starting at age two or four and are marketed under a ‘sexy’ label.
“This does raise grave concerns, as young girls have no comprehension of the messages that they are sending out when they wear age-inappropriate clothing.
“Parents do of course have freedom of choice, but it would be helpful if more thought were given to the wider issues surrounding the sexualisation of childhood.
“Childhood is a precious time and misguided commercialisation and distortion should not be allowed to hijack it in this way.”
