Alyson Hannigan Talks About “Heart-Wrenching” Scene That Was Cut From How I Met Your Mother Finale

Look away if you haven’t seen the How I Met Your Mother finale yet.

Series star Alyson Hannigan has spoken about the “heart-wrenching” scene that was deleted from the finale.

Hannigan, who played Lily in the popular series, said that she thought the cut scene would have given fans of the show more closure. The scene would have shown montage of Tracy’s (the Mother) funeral.

“Honestly, if you saw that cut [of the funeral], it would be even more heart-wrenching than what the finale was” Hannigan told TV Line.

“They were like, ‘No, it’s just too gut-wrenching’. And I was like, ‘That’s what I want. I want my heart ripped out and slammed on the floor and, like, stomped on!

Many viewers expressed their anger and disappointment that Ted ended up with Robin in the end after Tracy passed away.

“[I think it] would have been better for the audience, so that then they can process, ‘Oh, [Ted] mourned. He got closure’ – and then they’d be happy that [he and Robin] got together” she added.

“Rather than be like, ‘Oh, wait. She died? What? They’re together, huh?’ And credits. That’s what I think was too fast.”
