Air Crew Forced To Tie Up Passenger After He Attempts To Light Up

A German tourist has been arrested after attempting to light up a cigarette several times onboard an Emirates flight on Thursday.

54-year-old Mathias Jorg, was caught trying to smoke in the airplane toilets and staff on the EK432 flight, from Singapore to Brisbane Airport, were forced to detain the passenger after he allegedly became violent and aggressive towards them.

This photograph, taken by another passenger, shows the incident where the man was restrained in a seat with his legs bound and arms tied behind his back.

Flight staff notified the authorities and once the Boeing 777 touched down on Australian soil the passenger was arrested.

According Courier Mail,  Jorg appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court charged by Australian Federal Police with one count of smoking on an aircraft, one count of assaulting crew and one count of assaulting crew affecting the performance of their duty.

Jorg was granted bail on the condition he surrendered his passport and made no applications for another. Magistrate Stephen Gutridge told the accused that he was not permitted to leave Australia or go within 100m of any place of international departure.

The man is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court again on January 1oth.
