Addicted To Facebook? You Might Need To Diet…

If you’ve ever had the overwhelming desire to check your Facebook feed while you’re waiting at the bus stop, having coffee or at the cinema then it might be time to read this book

Ever felt like you’re reaching for your phone at any given opportunity?

Even if you know you really shouldn’t and it’s a bit rude to flick through your friends virtual worlds even if you’re sitting opposite one of them?

It has over a billion users – one in seven people in the world uses the social networking site – and 34 percent of all users check their accounts before they even brush their teeth in the morning so it’s pretty safe to say that Facebook addiction is becoming a problem.

And one woman who felt herself slipping deeper and deeper into the virtual world decided to take action and is helping fellow addicts to get back to the real world in a humorous, light-hearted way.

Author and illustrator Gemini Adams’s book The Facebook Diet takes a tongue-in-cheek look at our obsession with social media and features 50 cartoons that pinpoint the situations where Facebook is our main priority. From spending hours on a night-out perfecting a potential profiler pic to checking in at your local Starbucks, every situation is catered for.

The Facebook Diet is out in April

Speaking to the Huffington Post, Adams admits that the idea for the book came to her after she realised that she was spending more time interacting with friends online than in real life and was “dipping in and out pretty much all day long”.

During her research for the book she also discovered that excessive interaction not only leads to added stress, it also affects our ability to concentrate and raises our feelings of envy and resentment. “People are shoving their holidays in our face which is one of the things that causes the most anxiety on Facebook” she says.

Author Gemini Adams have deleted her Facebook account and is urging us to do the same

Sound familiar? The Facebook Diet isn’t out until April so you have a couple of months to wean yourself off it until then.

Better start letting all your “friends” know…
