Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for a number of counties this morning as a result of extremely strong winds.

The wind warning is in place for counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry. with the forecaster predicting strong to gale force south to southwest winds of mean speeds of 60 to 65km/h.

Gusts of 90 to 100km/h are expected in western and northwestern coastal counties as Monday has dawned dark, dreary and pretty miserable all round.

The weather warning is in place until 9am this morning and heavy rain is predicted throughout the day with some dry interludes.

Tonight will be slightly milder, though it is expected to remain blustery, with minimum temperatures of about 13 degrees.
